“The Alma Book Club has been in existence for seventeen years.  It was started with a grant for Healthy Communities. The grant was written by Lois Balk. This book club has been one of the high points of my life. It lets me share all the good books I read with other readers. What a wonderful way to learn.”

“The Book Club is great. Never did much reading before I started going to the Club. In the winter nothing is better; to curl up with a book. I read a lot more now – so many things you can’t do at an older age, so reading is fun!”

From Booklist magazine: Winter Bloom. In the heart of Dublin, there exists a dilapidated, acre-wide, walled garden that hasn’t been touched for years. When Eva, a recently widowed teacher and mother of four-year-old Liam, happens upon the garden, she instantly feels a strong desire to rebuild it into an urban green space. The garden has an unexpected effect on Eva’s life, bringing together a motley crew of unlikely Dubliners who rebuild it, all dealing with their own special kind of grief…..

The Alma Book Club is on hiatus, but members have scheduled two books for their springtime reads!

March 21st – Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown.
April 18th – Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Readers will have plenty of time to check out these titles, and to imagine the fun conversations that will follow the spring thaw. The public is welcome to join in! Most meetings are scheduled for the 3rd Mondays of the month at 7:00 in the library – weather permitting!
