Alma Public Library is creating a collection of Kits for Kids that will help daycare providers and other caregivers have fun and educational learning resources at hand!

Public libraries are very involved in creating book kits for children and adults. Many school and public libraries purchase multiple copies of a title and circulate them as a Book Club kit. The Department of Public Instruction’s Resources for Libraries & Lifelong Learning program maintains a list of kits for adults that can be borrowed through interlibrary loan. There are currently 1791 titles on the list!  Book Club Kits

The Library + Badgerlink can help you find the facts.

Sometimes a topic generates a lot of buzz, and you wonder where you can go to get more information. The WI Dept of Public Instruction makes available an online resource called, BadgerLink. Available to all Wisconsin residents, it’s a tool that many people aren’t familiar with, and a worthwhile source of hundreds of magazine and newspaper articles!

Visit the Library if you have a need-to-know. We’ll help you use BadgerLink to find out more about health-related topics, the newest business craze, or even the latest clickbait.

{“From a historical perspective, the techniques employed by clickbait authors can be considered derivative of yellow journalism, which presents little or no legitimate well-researched news and instead uses eye-catching headlines that include exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, or sensationalism.” – from Wikipedia}

What do these films have in common?

Saving Private Ryan
Schindler’s List
Star Wars

The Alma Public Library owns them, they were directed by Steven Spielberg, and the music for these movies, and many, many more was written by composer John Williams!

With 49 Academy Award nominations, “Williams holds the record for the most Oscar nominations of any living person.” “Note by note, through chord and chorus, his genius for marrying music with movies has elavated the art form to symphonic levels and inspired generations of audiences to be enriched by the magic of movies.” (Sir Howard Stringer, Chair, American Film Institute Board of Trustees)

The American Film Institute will be presenting Williams with its 44th Life Achievement Award on June 9, 2016.
