Welcome to the Alma Public Library.

To allow all patrons of  the library to use its facilities to the fullest extent during regularly scheduled hours, the Library Board of Trustees has adopted the following rules governing the use of the facility:

Patrons shall engage in activities associated with the use of a public library.  Patrons not reading, studying, using the catalog, Internet or using library materials may be required to leave the building.

Treat library property with respect. The library facility may not be used for other purposes with out special permission of the Board of Directors.

Respect the rights of other patrons.  Patrons shall not engage in conduct which disrupts, disturbs, or in any way interferes with normal library operations and service, the library staff’s performance of their duties, or with the use and enjoyment of the library by other patrons.   Patrons shall not act in an obscene or threatening manner.

Dress appropriately (fully clothed). Shirt and shoes are required.  Clean hands are required while handling library materials and computer keyboards.  Persons whose bodily hygiene or clothing odor is offensive so as to constitute a nuisance to other patrons or staff shall be required to leave the building.

Supervise your children and assist them in observing appropriate conduct.  Children under eight must be supervised.

Silence cell phones, pagers, watches.  Conduct phone conversations outside.

Keep personal items out of the aisles where they may become a hazard.

Park bicycles and scooters away from the doors and drop boxes.

Refrain from consuming food and drink in the library except upon approval of the library board.  Only bottled water is allowed.

Assistance dogs are the only animals permitted in the library without special permission.

Firearms, weapons, intoxicants or illegal substances are prohibited. Use of any tobacco product is prohibited. Use of these items on library premises will result in immediate dismissal from the library and, if pertinent, the police will be notified.

Selling, soliciting, panhandling or loitering (not using library services or materials) on library property is not allowed.

The library is not responsible for personal items left unattended.  Items left in the library will be placed in a lost and found box for a period of four months before being disposed of.

Radios, cell phones, digital players, cassette or CD players may be operated with headphones but must be inaudible to surrounding library users.

Patrons may not use the library’s electrical outlets to power personal computers or other electrical devices unless under special circumstances.

All library materials must be checked out with a valid library card or valid Inter-library loan procedure before exiting the building.  Shopping bags, purses, briefcases, backpacks, etc. are subject to inspection by library staff.

Each patron shall be responsible for any fines, fees, or other charges due in accordance with the library’s standard schedules.  Failure to pay fees and/or fines in excess of $10.00 will result in suspension of borrowing privileges.

Library employees may contact the Alma Police or on-duty law enforcement officer if deemed advisable.

Any patron who violates these rules and regulations may be denied the privilege of access to the Alma Public Library by the Library’s Board of Trustees, on the recommendation of the Library Director.  A patron whose privileges have been denied may have that decision reviewed by the Board of Trustees.
